Following the conference on IP Forum at the EP last week, where technology such as Spotify and Deezer were hailed to help generate revenue for artists in the online world, Younison wishes to underline the importance of the mantra "where money is made , artists should get payed" and add to that that it is of utmost importance that the data is delivered directly to the benificiaries, so they can double check if these moneys are correct, just like we are urging the commission to make sure that this is done with the Collective rights collected by the collecting societies , making sure that the right artists get payed the right moneys.
We therefor ask for full transparency on online rates , so right owners can decide whether or not to sign up for a streaming site such as Spotify - where streaming rates are 300 times less than download rates from iTunes- and weigh off if the small growth of income won from piracy by the streaming service compensates the income loss by the cannibalistic effect it has on download sales.
Following recent take downs of many smaller labels and the fact that the biggest acts such as Adele and Coldplay have objected to put on their latest albums on the steaming site, its fair to say that the future success of streaming services falls or stands with the fact that customers will pay enough for the all inclusive model (without the best albums not being available) and so the trust that artist hold in the correct and fair retribution of money collected in their name is trumps,..
