Technology has always helped mankind in times of transition, so why shouldn't we use it for music.Technology is currently making it much easier already for artists to spread their creation (you tube, myspace...), but also it has made things possible that are cutting down the sales.I'm sure that this is only a transitory problem that will also be aided with technology!

It's the record industry that is killing itself

distrbutor(s) works depending of major radio statistics. and the masses will always buy the mainstream commercial shit. it's like a snake eating himself. i don't know if technology will be the solution but it will definitely help artists (myspace,...) with a worldwide visibility. ANYWAY small record companies deserve to get some money from politics... Souls got to wake up, create a own system. let's go!

Downloading is not the problem, the problem is that the major record compagnies still demanding CD prices wich are to high.
There are music download sites where You can get Your beloved tunes for less than 1 €, wich is a fair price, most of the time You just want to have 1 upon 3 tracks and You don't have to buy the whole album.
By downlading on a legal way, the selling stays transparant (digital counting). Digital means also, less printing paper, less cd plastics, less alu, and above all, less polution for the planet(as long we keep it to re-recording systems, cause wiping out a unwilled track does not make any dirt at all)

I totaly agree with artizer, but I have to say that I like the idea of a real CD. It feels cooler, like it is more music or something like that. But anyway I've buyed all my music via a "Technology revolution" called the iTunes store.. So I think it is the future. :)

I think the whole music industry isn't really based on quality, but on quantity, and the most artist should earn their money by touring... a CD is just an expansive way to promote i guess..?

It's the artists themselves who will drive the transition. There are more than enough tools to build your career without having to rely on the good will of this institution or that media. It's a long run job though, depsite all the promises every portal makes the'll bring you billions of fans... With a bit of cleverness and a serious no-nonsense approach to running your career, you don't need anyone but yourself and the audience.
